Welcome to Barbara McCarthy Photos
Hi, I’m Dublin-based portrait, commercial and outdoor photographer with over a decade of experience capturing people, places, and moments through a photojournalistic lens.
My work is built on a passion for storytelling, adventure, and connection. You can see this in my work- whether I'm documenting events, taking portraits of people for editorial purposes or photographing Burning Man in the middle of the Nevada desert or photographing people on vacation in Ireland.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients — from entrepreneurs and families to tourist destinations, non-profits, newspapers, and commercial brands. My images have featured in international outlets including Al Jazeera, The Irish Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Independent, and The Sydney Morning Herald, among others.
Today, I specialise in vacation photography, outdoor portraits, and candid family sessions across Ireland and Europe. Professionalism, expertise and a stress free experience, I have a very relaxed approach, so you can enjoy having your photo taken, I’m really experienced, so I know where you need to stand or what you need to do, so you can just enjoy the session.
I focus on commercial and outdoor photography and my photos are very natural, but everyone looks great. When you look at my work on this site, you can see how I work with natural light as well as studio lights to create a very recognisable documentary style. I don’t do Kitsch, over processing or bad quality. I take pride in my work and go above and beyond to create the perfect image. As you can by this site, I don’t cut any corners.
